Project Title : Vibro Compaction for ExxonMobil Singapore Parallel Train (SPT) Project at Jurong Island

Technique : Vibro Compaction

The Project

The ExxonMobil SPT Project is part of the expansion by ExxonMobil Chemical Asia Pacific Ltd at their existing chemical plant in Jurong Island. The project area is located southwest of the operating ExxonMobil Refinery and the Singapore Chemical Plant and includes land freed by the relocation of a 1km length of Jurong Island Highway. Upon completion of this project, it will become the world’s biggest chemical plant for ExxonMobil.

The soil investigations on site showed 15m to 30m of loose to medium dense reclaimed sand fill which is followed by stiff silts of Jurong Formation.

Vibro Compaction works were carried out in the sand fill layer by Keller to achieve a set of target Cone Resistance values at specified depths within the sand layer.

Vibro Compaction works of approximately 100,000 m2 area of sand, was completed within 6 months between June 2008 and November 2008. The works were carried out using two heavy capacity crawler cranes set-up as twin vibro rigs
