Resorts World at Sentosa Pte. Ltd. is developing an integrated resort in Sentosa Island, Singapore. Part of the development requires reclamation of approximately 64,000m2 at the northern part of the island.
The reclamation commences with the construction of a pipe pile seawall along the edge of reclamation and followed by dumping of fill onto the seabed. The fill material used for the reclamation fill material is taken from nearby excavations. The soil conditions showed up to 6m thick of soft marine clay below the seabed. This is followed by stiff to hard silts.
Deep Soil Mixing (DSM) has been proposed as the ground improvement technique of the reclamation fill and soft clay. The Deep Soil Mixing works were carried out using modified twin-shafts LRB155 and single shaft Soilmec machine and performed to stiff silt layer. A total of 20,000 DSM columns were constructed with column lengths vary between 5m and 14m.
Plate Load Tests were carried out on constructed columns at working load. The test results showed average settlement of less than the specified maximum settlement of 50mm.
